MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A security guard at a private college in Memphis was carjacked Wednesday morning, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

MPD said a woman was inside a security office at Rhodes College around 2 a.m. when she noticed a light inside of her blue 2023 Dodge Challenger. She went outside to investigate and saw someone inside of her car, police said. The woman tried to hit her car's killswitch when a man saw her, got out of the Challenger and fired a shot at her, according to MPD.

The man ran after the woman and followed her into the security office where he pointed a black revolver at her and said, "Give me the keys, hoe," according to police. MPD said that the woman handed over her keys and the carjacker sped off in her blue Challenger. The woman was not injured in the carjacking, police said.

Along with her car, the man stole the woman's Dell work laptop, work iPhone, personal phone, subwoofers and wallet containing her driver's license, Bank of America debit and credit card and Capital One credit card, MPD said.

Rhodes sent FOX13 a statement saying that the college will increase patrols in the area.

“We can confirm that a campus safety dispatcher’s car, a dark blue Dodge Challenger, was stolen overnight on Tutwiler just west of University. We sent notification to our campus community shortly after the incident. The suspect fired one shot and demanded keys. We are thankful that no one was injured. Rhodes is working with the Memphis Police Department to increase its patrols in the area and will be continuing its on-campus and campus perimeter safety patrols," said a spokesperson for Rhodes College.
