2 men arrested after shooting on I-240 that injured man and 4 children

At 5:15, officers responded to the shooting. When they arrived they found an empty Chevrolet Malibu on the interstate with bullet holes in the car. Two men have been arrested for shooting a man and four minors on I-240 West near Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The victims, a 30-year-old man, were transferred to Regional One Health Hospital and transferred to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Police found an empty Chevrolet Malibu with bullet holes in the car and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. During the pursuit, the suspects fired shots at officers before the car eventually crashed in a ditch. Kendrick Ray, 21, was charged with six counts of attempted first-degree murder, six counts for employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, evading arrest on foot, and theft of property $10,000-$60,000. The other suspect, Lorenzo Watson, is charged with multiple counts of carjacking and aggravated assault.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Two men are arrested after shooting a man and four minors on I-240 West near Poplar Avenue on Tuesday.

At 5:15, officers responded to the shooting. When they arrived they found an empty Chevrolet Malibu on the interstate with bullet holes in the car.

Officers were told that five victims had arrived by private vehicle at Baptist East and were in critical condition, according to police.

There was a 30-year-old man who was one of the victims and was transferred to Regional One Health Hospital.

There was also a 2-year-old, two 3-year-olds and an 8-year-old who were transferred to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Officers were told that the suspect vehicle was a 2022 gray Mitsubishi Outlander.

At 5:29 p.m., officers found the vehicle at 2700 North Germantown Parkway, and the driver drove away.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, so officers pursued it.

During the pursuit, the suspects fired shots at officers in the area of James Road and Highland Street. The car eventually crashed in a ditch on Bethune Road, and both suspects ran away.

After a foot pursuit, both were taken into custody.

Officers also discovered that the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander was stolen on June 9, from Palm Street.

Kendrick Ray, 21, was charged with six counts of attempted first-degree murder, six counts of employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, evading arrest on foot, and theft of property $10,000-$60,000. Ray also had a warrant for two counts of carjacking, three counts of employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, three counts of reckless endangerment, and attempted first-degree murder. Ray had prior arrests for disorderly conduct, inciting to riot, criminal trespass, possession of a prohibited weapon, resisting official detention, theft of property $1,000 or less, and contributing to the delinquency of a child.

He was also responsible for a carjacking and aggravated assault that occurred on June 3, on South Parkway East.

The other suspect was identified as Lorenzo Watson, 18. He is charged with six counts of attempted first-degree murder, six counts of employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, evading arrest on foot, evading arrest in a vehicle, and theft of property $10,000-$60,000.
