Woman pings stolen iPad after home burglary

Tommy Betts, 44, is charged with theft of property. A Memphis woman reported that her home was burglarized on Oct. 30, 2023, with an iPad valued at $300, a Casio keyboard valued $300 and a gold bangled bracelet, a Tifanny gold watch, and a Dogwood flower-shaped diamond necklace. The burglar allegedly broke a glass door window and stole items from inside the home. The victim pinged her stolen iPad after it was stolen. Tommy Betts, 44, was arrested and charged with theft of property.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A woman pinged her stolen iPad after her home was burglarized.

Tommy Betts, 44, is charged with theft of property.

On Oct. 30, 2023, a woman reported to police that someone had broken into her home on Washington Avenue.

She told police that the person gained entry by breaking a glass door window on the rear side of the home.

The burglar stole an iPad valued at $300, a Casio keyboard valued at $300, a gold bangled bracelet valued at $500, a gold bracelet valued at $5,000 a Tifanny gold watch valued at $10,000, a Dogwood flower-shaped diamond necklace valued at $10,000, duffle bag and other assorted jewels from inside the home, according to police.

The victim was able to track her iPad, which pinged in the areas of Lamar Avenue and Semmes Street and also Elvis Presley Boulevard and Gateway Drive.

Officers found a red Chevy Camaro parked at the location that was occupied by a man identified as Betts.

He was soon detained.

Officers discovered an iPad and a duffle bag with jewelry inside of it.

MPD contacted the victim and she was able to identify the items belonging to her.

Betts was then taken into custody.
