Rock n’ Soul Museum and Music Hall of Fame to move into old Hard Rock Building

If there’s one thing that Memphis is known for its music, and throughout the city, there are various spots that pay tribute to the people who created the sound of the mid-south and now all of those places are going to be in one spot. The Memphis Rock “n” Soul Museum and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame have moved to a new home at 126 Beale Street, named the J.W. and Kathey Gibson Center of Memphis Music. The move is part of a larger effort to showcase Memphis' history and revitalize the city's music scene. Kevin Kane, the President of Memphis Tourism, said the museum and Hall Of Fame are more than just a place where artifacts are displayed, they tell a story of what music meant in Memphis. Priscilla Presley, the former Hard Rock Cafe owner, expressed hope that the new location will continue Elvis' and many other artists' histories and add to the culture throughout downtown. Officials said it will take about a year and a half to two years to set up, and there are no plans yet for the Rock and Soul Museum's old location next to the FedExForum.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - If there’s one thing that Memphis is known for its music, and throughout the city, there are various spots that pay tribute to the people who created the sound of the mid-south and now all of those places are going to be in one spot.

The Memphis Rock “n” Soul Museum and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame now have a new home at 126 Beale Street called the J.W. and Kathey Gibson Center of Memphis Music.

Kevin Kane, the President of Memphis Tourism said the museum and Hall of Fame are more than just a place that shows artifacts, they tell a story of what music meant in this city

“There is a story in Memphis that needed to be told and it was a story that talked about music, but more importantly it was how diversity came together to change the world,” Kane said.

Priscilla Presley was at Thursday’s event and said that moving all of these places into one spot it will help honor all of the people that made Memphis Music so special.

“By relocating the rock ‘n’ soul museum at 126 Beale Street we will honor the legacy of what Memphis is known for around the world and that is Memphis music,” Presley said.

Priscilla Presley said she hoped this new spot would continue Elvis’ and many other artists’ histories and add to the culture throughout downtown.

“The Rock n’ SoulMuseum on Beale Street is going to revitalize our Memphis entertainment district And make it fun and safe again,” Presley said.

Not only was this new spot the old Hard Rock Cafe, but it was also home to Lasky Bros clothing store where many of the famous Midsouth artists got their looks, and with so much history many hope this will help inspire the next generation

“We are about to see programming, we are going to start to see opportunities for us to truly showcase what Memphis truly has to offer to the world,” J.W. Gibson said.

Officials said it is going to take about a year and a half to two years to get everything set up, and that there are no plans yet for the Rock and Soul Museum’s old location next to the FedExForum.
