The event, which includes sock donations for homeless organizations and hospitals in Memphis, was started in 2011 by Middle Tennessee's Bobby Novak and quickly became a nationwide initiative. The goal is to collect 4,000 pairs of socks, which will be donated to local hospitals, churches and homeless organizations. The community can help by donating to Rachel Taylor's Amazon wish list or dropping off donations at the school. For Mrs. Taylor, community service is personal, as she learned from her late mother, Shelia, about the importance of giving back.
