Ex-Manager Charged in Whitehaven Apartment Office Break-In
A masked break-in at a Whitehaven apartment office ended with a familiar face unmasked on camera. A masked break-in at a Whitehaven apartment complex has led to charges against former property manager Marcia Burks, who was recognized by both her former boss and former coworker alike. Burks was charged with theft of property and burglary after two masked women allegedly broke into the business office at Oakwood Meadow Estates on Airways, stealing tenant files, a desktop computer, and a Wi-Fi modem. The current property manager found the office doors open and multiple files missing, identifying one of the burglars as Burks. If any of the stolen files contained personal information covered under state law, Tennessee's Identity Theft Deterrence Act of 1999 requires businesses and government entities to notify Tennessee residents whose personal information was or may have been affected by a breach. The incident occurred during a period of falling crime numbers in Memphis, with overall crime dropping 23.8% and reported thefts falling 36.8%.
