Air quality alert issued for the Mid-South as warm stretch of weather underway

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - An air quality alert is in effect Friday for Shelby, Crittenden and DeSoto counties. An air quality alert is in effect for Shelby, Crittenden and DeSoto counties in Tennessee, due to a Code Orange Ozone Forecast that will exceed the Environmental Protection Agency's federal safe health standard. The Shelby County Health Department recommends that sensitive groups, such as active children and adults, and those with respiratory disease, limit prolonged outdoor exertion. Temperatures are expected to remain in the high 80s until Monday, with a rain chance expected by the end of the weekend into early next week.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - An air quality alert is in effect Friday for Shelby, Crittenden and DeSoto counties.

The Code Orange Ozone Forecast is set to last until sunset Friday.

The Shelby County Health Department issued the following statement on the ozone forecast:

"This ozone forecast is due to forecasted ozone values that will be unhealthy for sensitive groups. These values will exceed the Environmental Protection Agency`s federal safe health standard. The Shelby County Health Department recommends that sensitive groups which include active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, limit prolonged outdoor exertion."

Temperatures on Friday afternoon are expected to rise into the high 80s across the Mid-South.

LOOKING AHEAD: Temperatures will remain in the high 80s until Monday. Rain chance will go up by the end of the weekend into early next week. Lowend severe.
