Pat Sajak’s final episode as host of Wheel of Fortune was especially bittersweet for one Memphis woman.

Adrienne Bean was one of three contestants who competed in Friday night’s farewell episode to the show’s host of 41 years, and the longtime fan left with a lot more than memories. The Whitehaven resident won big, taking home nearly $90,000.

For Bean, even just being on the game show was a childhood dream come true.

“I used to watch Wheel of Fortune with my grandmother,” Bean said in an interview with Action News 5. “Of course, I wanted to watch other shows like Disney Channel, but she was like, ‘No, we are going to watch this.’”

But quickly learned to love the show, thanks, in large part, to its host.

“His wit and his charm, because he’s definitely the best host I’ve ever seen,” Bean told the local news outlet. “That’s why the show has been on so long.”

Sajak’s finale episode was filmed earlier this year and included one less round to give him time to share a parting message with audiences.

"Well, the time has come to say goodbye. I have a few thanks and acknowledgements before I go, and I want to start with all watching out there. It's been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes night after night, year after year, decade after decade,” he said. "I've always felt that the privilege came with the responsibility to keep this daily half hour a safe place for family fun," he added. "No social issues, no politics, nothing embarrassing, I hope, just a game."

"But gradually it became more than that," Sajak continued. "A place where kids learned their letters, where people from other countries honed their English skills, where families came together along with friends and neighbors and entire generations.

"What an honor to play even a small part in all of that," he concluded. "Thank you for allowing me into your lives. Every time we taped a show, I met three new people from all parts of this wonderful country and the world who were kind and considerate, who rooted for each other, who took great pride in talking about their family, their hometown, their friends, their schools, their jobs, even their pets.”

Ryan Seacrest will be taking over as host of Wheel of Fortune when it returns for season 42.
